About Me

Beautiful Androgyny (BA) began as a review/information site for the rising yaoi/BL market in the middle of 2005. Created when there were only a handful of American publishers/licensors, BA took on the task of becoming the premiere database for the yaoi/BL fandom. They created a database hundreds long listing ISBNs for every Japanese title they could find as well as database every yaoi doujinshi they came across. They also categorized the doujins by character pairing. They also did the same for the American releases, listing not only the library of active companies, but did the best to preserve the information for defunct publishers as well. They've also conducted interviews with the likes of Makoto Tateno, Dany & Dany, and Yamila Abraham as well as write several reviews for the yaoi industry.

The sole proprietor and operator of BA is Ruby Boiko. She has been part of the anime/manga community for most of her life. She has worked on fansubs in the days of laserdiscs, ran various parts of various conventions (A-Kon, AnimeFEST, KamiKazeCon, Ohayocon, Nan Desu Kan, Ushicon), was the manager of Planet Anime Dallas, and buyer for Hellcat's Clawset. Her roles in the anime convention scene runs from running cosplay, panels, video-fests, staff, art show, marketing, and guest relations. She has won several cosplay competitions as well.

As the manger of Planet Anime Dallas, Ruby met several other yaoi fans and turned PA into a destination for yaoi/BL fans looking for an understanding staff and actual product. Expanding on the physical books in the store, Ruby created BA to expand her knowledge digitally and reach a larger audience. She wanted BA to become a reliable and useful resource for other yaoi/BL fans wanting to find more of the genre. With the political and cultural climate as it stands today, Ruby decided that it is time to create and promote original content that embraces and highlights the LGBT community. She begins with the anthology QueerManga.
